40 Jahre nach Hunter S. Thompsons Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas hat Zach Baron sich in Thompsons Fußstapfen begeben und ist nach Vegas geflogen. Heraus kam eine Spurensuche nach und Reflektion über Thompson, das neue Las Vegas als Glitzerspiegel unserer Zeit und die Realität des American Dream.
"Fear and Self-loathing in Las Vegas" ist das bislang beste Stück, das ich bei The Daily gesehen habe. Mit deutlichem Abstand.
Allein die Schreibe ist großartig und eine gelungene Hommage.

Die Art, wie er die Stationen des Buchs in der Gegenwart widerzuspiegeln versucht - Autorennen für Autorennen, Casino für Casino, Hacker-Konferenz für Anwaltstreffen - ist wirklich unterhaltsam.
Und die Reflektion über Thompson, den Entstehungsprozess des Buches Fear and Loathing und die Frage, ob das abgewrackte Vegas die amerikanische Realität statt des amerikanischen Traums verkörpert, machen den Text allesamt lesenswert.
(Was das mit Nullen und Einsen zu tun hat? Äh, hm, es... ist die Reflektion eines Online-Mediums über einen popkulturell wichtigen Text und steht online? Ach, lasst mich doch in Ruhe. Bei dem Thompson-Archiv auf Playboy.com hat mich das schließlich auch nicht gestört.)
